It’s Friday, December 19, 2025. Yep, Ugly Sweater Day. You dug it out of the closet, or grabbed one for ten bucks online. Personally, I got my 2nd hand…and washed it 3 times, 1st hand! I’ve worn in for kids, co-workers and well…just for the giggles.
Anyway, it’s too loud. It’s too itchy. And I’m too proud to care, apparently.
But here’s the part no one talks about.
That sweater only exists because of pollinators. Especially bees. And today you can save the future of ugly sweaters with a 2X a donation to Save the Bee!
Let’s break it down.
Wool comes from sheep. Sheep eat plants. Those plants rely on pollinators to set seed and stay healthy. Soo…no bees (aka, poor forage, leading to weak pastures, environmental collapse) no wool.
Cotton? Yeah, she works not dissimilarly. Cotton plants depend on pollination to thrive. Strong plants mean better fiber. Better fiber means the sweater fits instead of falling apart after one wash.
Turns out, your ugly sweater, and mine, starts in a field. Not a factory.
Bees keep those fields alive. And it doesn’t stop with clothes. Bees prop up ecosystems that hold soil in place. They support biodiversity that keeps pests in check. They fuel food systems that feed people and livestock. They make your ugly ugly…ugly sweater possible. Mine too.
All that work. All that impact. Invisible. Kind of like the bee herself.
Now here’s the beautiful ugly truth. Bees are struggling but they’ll keep working, HARD.
…Habitat loss.
…Chemical exposure.
…Disease.
…Climate stress. And the beekeeper who keep it all rolling…under pressure.
Bees are like honey-badgers in this way…they don’t care. They will just keep on working.
Yet, beekeepers are losing colonies at rates that should scare all of us. When bees suffer, everything connected to them feels it. Including the stuff you wear.
So yeah. Rock the sweater. Laugh at the red-nosed reindeer. Applaud the blinking lights. Lean into the bit UGLY, but don’t forget the Bee.
Or at least, don’t miss the beauty behind it. The bee makes it possible. And right now, the bee needs help. We’re in the final stretch of our year-end campaign. Every dollar you give is doubled by a $20,000 match.
That means twice the habitat restored. Twice the research funded. Twice the education and advocacy pushing change forward.
Your ugly sweater gets one day. The Bee is working everyday.
Your gift? It lasts a whole lot longer.
