If you take a minute this week to look past the sales, the countdown clocks, and the urgency of December, you’ll notice something quieter. The everyday givers. The ones who don’t wait for a holiday to show up.
The Bee.
And the Beekeeper.
Even now, with short days and cold mornings, they’re still at it.
The bees spent spring and summer pouring life into the world.
- The blossoms.
- The fruits and vegetables.
- The seeds that fed the birds.
- The forage that fed the livestock.
- The color and vibrance we all walked through without thinking.
…All of it came from their work.
That same abundance is settling into the soil right now, breaking down into the compost that will feed next year’s fields. Bees set the table for winter long before we ever felt the first frost.
And while the bees cluster tight, living off the stores they worked for all year, the beekeeper is still giving too.
They’re feeding hungry colonies. Treating for mites and disease. Repairing equipment in cold sheds. Checking hives between storms. Planning for the coming pollination season.
People imagine winter is when beekeepers “take a break.” There is no break. There’s only stewardship.
They worry. They hope. They do everything they can to carry colonies through to spring, because they know how much hangs in the balance when bees don’t make it.
So as Giving Tuesday rolls in, I keep thinking about this simple truth.
Bees give every day. Beekeepers give every day. And they give to all of us.
If you’ve benefited from a piece of fruit, a warm sweater, a cup of coffee, a steady food system, or even a landscape that feels alive—you’ve received something from them.
If you’d like to give something back, this is the moment.
A donor has stepped up with a $20K match through the end of the year. Every dollar you give is doubled. Your support becomes habitat. Research. Healthier colonies. Direct help for the people doing the work when the rest of us are inside staying warm.
…Give today.
……Or tomorrow.
………Or the day after.
The name of the day doesn’t matter.
The impact does.
And if you’ve already given, thank you. Please share this and help us carry the bees—and the people who care for them—into a stronger 2026.
